Writing
Overview
The minor in Writing is taken by students in a variety of majors. Students in the minor can specialize in Creative Writing, Technical Writing, or Rhetoric and Composition.
Point of Pride
The Department of English was the first in the nation to establish a doctoral program in English studies.
Why study Writing?
Students studying English form, evaluate, and master the language. They critique and create art forms such as poetry, drama, and the novel. A bachelor's degree is usually sufficient for entry in many industries but for college or university educators a Ph.D. is recommended. A Minor in English can be good preparation for continued graduate or professional training in areas such as English, law, political science/government, public administration, psychology, counseling, communications, and religious studies (i.e., seminary).
